What is the Visions of Us Project?

A vision is something you see.  Sometimes it is real and other times it is imagined.  Some visions we see with our eyes.  Others we see with our heart.  A vision lights the way.  It is the light at the end of the tunnel.  United visions are a blueprint for a community's success. Unfortunately, too many young urban children have stopped seeing their visions.

The Visions of Us Project gives young people from communities in Chicago, Illinois the chance to see themselves as they are and as they want to be.  Mixed media textile art will give a community of young people the power to reveal their characters, dreams, and actions.  The Visions of Us Project will unite communities to unlock the power within each person to push for a better community in his or her own way.

Quilting is one form of textile art that has been used by many generations to reveal the visions of a community. Not only was the quilt functional but it sent a message.  Each color, design, and stitch shared a story.  The Visions of Us Project will use quilting and painting to tell the story of this generation. But our stories will not rest on a bed or hang on a wall. They will chase away darkness to brighten the world.  Each Vision of Us mixed media textile art work will be illuminated by a light reminding us that we are the energy needed for peaceful communities.

The Visions of Us Project is seeking support. The project will partner with a non-profit organization committed to urban youth.  This partnership will help us connect with children in established after school activities.  It will also give us a way to gather the resources to reach many children.  The Visions of Us Project wish list is available to anyone who wishes to help.   This blog will be the voice of the Visions of Us Project.  Visit often to keep up with our progress.
